International Journal of Political Science and Urban Studies

IPSUS, previously titled as the Journal of Political Science which started to be published in 2013, aims to establish a new academic discussion platform with original studies in the areas of political science, international relations, public administration, local governments. In the past five years, there has been a total of 99 articles that were published in 11 printed issues in the English, French and Turkish languages. The importance is given to be included in academic indexes with the aim of being one of the Turkey's leading social science journals. Our Journal, scanned by the TUBITAK national index and Ulrich's international index, also applied to the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), which is the first step to be accepted to the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI).

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

1. Submission Instructions.

Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below. Articles should be submitted to the Editor via email at ipsus@marmara.edu.tr

2. Preparation of the manuscript.

- Please provide author’s brief biography [(*) academic title and institution] in a footnote on the first page of the article.

a. Abstract: The article should begin with a summary up to 300 words, which should describe the main arguments and conclusions, and 4-5 keywords indicating to main themes of the manuscript. 

b. Article length. The manuscript should be around 20 pages in all. Articles should be between 7500 and 8000 words (including endnotes and references).

3. Page Setup:

Width 18 cm, length 23,5 cm.

a. Paragraph:

 - Paragraph Spacing: 6 pt. (before and after)

- Page margins: 2 cm

 - Line spacing: 1

- Cited paragraphs should be indented 1 cm in both sides

b. Fonts:

- Text Font: Times New Roman (12), justified.

- Titles: Times New Roman (12), Bold and Centered.

- Footnote size (10) Numbered sequentially to the end of the relevant page.

- Cited paragraph: Times New Roman (10)

- CAPS LOCK should not be used in the paper.

- Numbering should not be used in Introduction and Conclusion parts.

 

c. Spelling practices should be consistent throughout the article and should follow British spelling conventions.

d. Bibliographical referencing in text.  The ‘Harvard’ system should be used for bibliographical references in the text and notes: give author’s name, year of publication and page number(s) in round brackets. 

A list of references should be included at the end of the article starting on a new page and titled References. The list should be alphabetical by surname of author. Authors’ names should be in upper and lower case, while the titles of books, journals, films, newspapers, etc. should be in italics.

e. Quotations

British and American styles are both acceptable: British style uses single quotation marks for the first level of quotation and double quotation marks for quotations within quotations. American style uses double quotation marks for the first level of quotation and single quotation marks for quotations within quotations. Note that in British-style quotations, punctuation appears outside the quotation marks, unless an entire sentence is being cited; in American-style quotations, punctuation appears within the quotation marks. Quotations of more than four lines, which will be set as indented text in smaller type and line spacing, should not be preceded and followed by quotation marks, and should be double-spaced.

f. Foreign language text. Foreign language text should always be italicised, even when lengthy. English translations should appear in square brackets immediately at the foreign language text.
g. Dates. Dates should be given in the form '12 December 1972' or 'on 12 December'.
h. Numbering. The least number of figures should be used in page numbers, dates etc. (e.g. pp. 22-4; 105-6 and 1948-9), except between '10' and '19', '110' and '119', etc. In text and tables, decimals should be expressed: 0.012, 1.01 etc.
i. Spelling practices. Should be consistent throughout the article and can follow both British or American spelling conventions.
j. Abbreviations. Full stops should follow most abbreviations (e.g. pp., p., ed.), but full stops should not be used for Dr, Mr or in acronyms such as NATO or UN, or well-known abbreviations (BBC, USA, MP,…).

k. Tables and Illustrations. Tables should be properly titled and numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Illustrations such as diagrams, maps and graphs must be referred to as ‘Figures’, must have their own title and must be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Necessary permission must be obtained by the author for the reproduction of any illustration or table already published.

l. Notes section. Notes should be kept to a minimum, be printed as endnotes and should be typed double-spaced as a separate section preceding the References.

4. Copyright. It is a condition of acceptance that a contribution has not already appeared in print and that if accepted it will not be reproduced elsewhere without the written permission of Marmara University Journal of Political Science. Work which has previously been published in another widely-spoken European language must be substantially revised before publication in English. Authors are responsible for the correct attribution of all their sources.
