About Faculty

The Faculty of Political Sciences is one of the three new faculties that were established and replaced by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

SBF operates in the Anadoluhisarı Campus in the Bosphorus, which is perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the world in terms of its geography and has an advantageous position in many terms. Qualified specialized library, dormitory, sports infrastructure, recreation areas and social facilities are located the Campus.

The Department of Political Science and International Relations, in which the medium of instruction is English, and the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, in which the medium of instruction is French, have a long history of 30 years. In 2012, with the resolution adopted in the General Assembly of Higher Education Council, the ones to be taught in Turkish were established and the number of departments increased to four. In 2013, by the resolution of YÖK General Assembly, the Department of Local Governments was established. In 2019, two separate departments of Political Science and Public Administration are integrated into one department and two different programs in which medium of instruction is English and French.  The institutionalization of our faculty is continuing rapidly with its four departments providing education in three different languages.

The faculty consists of 83 faculty members, which are 18 Professors, 24 Associate Professors, 14 Assistant Professors, 3 lecturers and 24 research assistants. The Department of Political Science and International Relations, which provides education in English, includes 506; There are 391 students in the French program of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, 266 students in the 30% English program in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, 287 students in the Department of International Relations and 285 students in the Department of Local Administration. In addition to this number, 8 graduate programs have 616 graduate students, 465 of whom are masters and 151 of them are PhD. Together with these students, the total number of students has reached 2,200.

There are two research centers operating in close cooperation and coordination with our faculty. These are Urban Problems and Local Governments Research Center and Research Center for International Relations (MURCIR).

The faculty has two periodicals: The Marmara University Journal of Political Science is an biannual indexed academic journal, which provides a platform for research articles in Turkish, English and French. “Political Bulletin” is a journal published twice a year and includes interviews and faculty activities.

In the last three years, approximately 120 students have come to our faculty within the framework of the exchange program or participated in the educational mobility in the universities. There are currently nine student clubs in our faculty.
